Scientific Exploration Society 2019 Explorer Award announcement
We are excited to announce that one of our volunteer medics, Dr Scott Pallett FRGS, has been named the SES Gough Explorer 2019 for our Rangers First programme.
The project team has been working hard over the last year to finalise the delivery of a bespoke combat medical response train-the-trainer courses for wildlife rangers facing an increasingly dangerous task; the pilot will be run in Zambia and by working alongside 6 separate anti-poaching units will allow for the frame-work of a first responder network spread across 22,000km2 of African wilderness. The team each bring their own unique skill set, having helped to deliver remote medicine throughout sub-Saharan Africa and the jungles of Southeast Asia.
Passionate about wildlife conservation and social justice, Scott will be joined by fellow team-mates Dr Charles Handford, Dr Shakira Nathoo, Dr Kim Findley-Cooper and WildCross Founder, Stephanie Wong. We cannot thank the Scientific Exploration Society and Lord Gough enough for their support and look forward to setting off to Zambia this summer. We would also like to thank the Society’s supporters for their 2019 explorers, RSK Group, Shackleton and Leatherman, as well as Jon Collins for his incredible support with videography.
The SES have a fantastic expeditions, events and socials for anyone interested in exploration, conservation and discovery this year. Find out more here and hope to see you at some of the events!
